Sylvester Orr, Jr., affectionally known as Bubba, was born on August 5, 1946, in Saltillo, Tennessee to Sylvester Orr, Sr. and Mattie Mae Garrard Orr. He departed life at his residence on Tuesday, May 26 at 3:49 a.m. surrounded by family.

Sylvester graduated from Lincoln High School and later attended West Kentucky Vocational School earning several certifications in Carpentry. He was of Baptist faith and a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Sylvester was a self-employed carpenter, who used his skills to earn a living but also enjoyed every opportunity to share his talents to help others.

Sylvester was a kind man who loved his family and cherished his friendships. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend. Sylvester was calm, cool, and collected, full of strength, wisdom, and dedication to those he loved. Raised on the Southside, he loved his roots and remained deeply connected to the community that helped shape him. On any particular day, you could find him on South 9th Street in fellowship; him as the main character. Known for his makeshift grills, he had an uncanny way of turning a rainy day into sunshine, an absolute good time! Sylvester also enjoyed spending days, that always turned into fun loving evenings, at his residence, enjoying time with neighbors and close friends. His personality was magnetic. His strength was formidable. His heart was pure.

Sylvester’s memory will live on vividly through the family he held very dear. He is survived by one son, Randall Patterson; seven daughters, Felita Jones, Commencita “Rona” (Danny) Knox, Stephanie Wilson, Patrinka Holland, Roshenna McHaney, Sophia Crumble, and Sydney (Fareed) Bello; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Jean Vinson, Lana Marie Orr, and Veretta (Johnny) Price; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sylvester joins in eternal rest, his parents, Sylvester and Mattie Mae Orr; and sister, Mary Joyce Hutch.

As we remember Bubba Orr, we celebrate a man who touched so many lives. His strength was unmistakable; a hardworking resilient man whose presence alone earned the respect of everyone around him. He carried himself with quiet dignity, treated people well, and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His memory, love, and legacy will forever live in the hearts of those blessed to know him.

Please join us at noon, Saturday, May 30, 2026, 12:00 NOON, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where Reverend Donna Newsome Hawkins will officiate, as we honor the life of Sylvester “Bubba” Orr, Jr.; a life well-lived, defined by unconditional love, enduring friendships, resilience, and the joys of life’s simplest treasure of community.
