Obituary

Spencer L. Cozart was a God-fearing man with a heart of gold. He was born on December 7, 1961 to Eva M.L. Donald and Sammy Lee Cozart in Humboldt, Tennessee. Spencer was raised in Humboldt until the age of 9 when he and his family then moved to Marion, Kentucky.

Spencer graduated from Crittenden County High School where excelled in the sport of basketball and in 2004 he was inducted into the basketball hall of fame. After high school Spencer attended Bethel University, a private Christ-centered school in McKenzie, Tennessee. There he studied the Old and New Testament of the Bible while majoring in psychology. Spencer continued his studies of the gospel by attending Free Will Baptist College Seminary. In 1982 Spencer continued to advance his education in psychology by attending Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.

During his time in Nashville Spencer became a father. In 1984 he welcomed the first of four beautiful daughters whom he loved and cherished very much! Along with his daughters, Spencer held a very special place in his heart for his four grandchildren. Becoming a grandfather in 2013 was one of the highlights of his life. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

In addition to the love he had for his children and grandchildren, his love for Alicia, his wife of twenty years was beyond compare. She lit a fire in his heart like no one else could.

One of the most memorable things about Spencer's character was that he brought a light with him everywhere he went. He loved God, he loved people, he loved to laugh, and he loved to talk. He had the gift of gab and used it as both a talent and a gift. Spencer spent a lot of time helping and ministering to other people. He had a passion for working with youth. For many years he worked at the Earl C. Clements Job Corps in Morganfield, Kentucky. He also coached a boy's youth basketball team in his community.

Spencer loved God and he would tell it to anyone he knew. He was raised in the Free Will Baptist Church and became a junior deacon at the age of 18. He was baptized by brother William "Bill" Hensley who mentored and counseled him. In 1990 Brother Hensley united Spencer and Geraldine in marriage. Spencer loved Brother Hensley and often referred to him as "His Father in Christ".

He started his Christian consulting business to help minister to people about the love of Christ. He enjoyed preaching and working in the church. He took a lot of pride in his appearance because anytime you saw Spencer he was sharp and looking good!! His personality was big and so was his heart.

Spencer's love for God and his desire to help people touched the lives of many. He was well-known and respected in the community. Spencer left a piece of his fiery spirit with everyone he met, and he will truly be missed by many.

Left behind to cherish his zeal are his wife, Alicia Cozart;; four daughters, Jasmine McMackin-Hatcher (Wes), Amber Neal, Sydney Cozart (Larry Wilson), and Lechina; four grandchildren, Samaria Cozart, Nyla Wilson, Cali Hatcher, and Mac Hatcher; one stepson, Timothy Neal; Siblings, Jaqueline Cozart, Stephone (Heather) Cozart, David (Keshia) Cozart, Angela Cozart, and Auriana Tuttle; former wife, Geraldine Cozart; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that he loved and adored.

Spencer was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Sammy Lee Cozart, mother, Eva M. Hill, stepfather, Charles Hill, one brother, Derrick Cozart and one sister Charlotte Moody.
