Obituary

Shirley Mae Proctor Rhymes moved into her Eternal Home located at 101 Heaven's Way, on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 6:47 a.m., from Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Paducah, KY.  Shirley had resided here on earth for 87 years, 11 months and 16 days after being born to her loving parents, the late Jesse Proctor and Helen Elizabeth Brown.

Shirley was of the Baptist faith and was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Metropolis.  As a dedicated member, she had been a former member of the church choir, served on the Culinary Committee and was a member of the Missionary Society.  Shirley was also a member of the Silver Defense Auxillary and the Happy Hearts Senior Citizens.

Shirley, a wonderful, caring and unselfishly giving person, was an advocated for the needy.  She fed the hungry and helped many individuals in various ways, making their lives easier to bear whether it was monetarily or with given kind loving words of encouragement.  Shirley loved her music, especially that of her favorite singing artist, Marvin Gaye.  She would even soulfully execute her dancing moves to one of her favorite songs, "Used To Be My Girl" by the O'Jays.  Not only did she let everyone know that she had class and was sassy, she, even belonged to a bowling league as part of the "Bowling Babes".

Shirley leaves her family and many friends to remember her as an earthly angel.  These individuals are Her Loving Children , Terry (Pam) Rhymes of Bowling Green, KY, Sheena Rae Franklin of Nobi, MI, Doris Jean (Lawrence) Rhymes-Bradley of Franklin, KY, Bonita Smith of Paducah, KY, Helen Rhymes and Darlene Ware, both of Metropolis, IL; An Abundance of Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren ; One Siste r, Alice Faye Owens of Paducah, KY; A Host of Nieces and Nephews including Lawrence (Carrye) Webb of Murray, KY and Dwayne Wall of Metropolis, IL and Peggy (John) Fears and Cousins and Friends including Toni Keyes, Lorenzo Goodman, Patricia Eskridge, Gail Rhyan, Jackie Meadows and Brother Mark Rowe.

Those who preceded her in death are Her Husbnd of 47 Years, Douglas Rhymes; Her Parents, Jesse Proctor and Helen Elizabeth Brown; and One Sister, Emma Jean Webb.

Shirley Mae Proctor Rhymes will be remembered for the loving person she was to one and all.

Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2023, 12:00 NOON, at First Missionary Baptist Church of Metropolis.  Reverend Dr. Orlando McReynolds will officiate, and burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis.

Friends may also call upon the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
