Shawn Ray McGhee, second oldest of four sons, was born to Flora and Ray McGhee on
April 28, 1964, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Shawn along with his Mother and Brothers, began attending Beth Eden Baptist Church at an early age. He would continue to attend as health permitted.
While overcoming many health challenges, Shawn attended Beidler and Bates Elementary Schools and Kennedy Special Education School. Shawn persevered and earned a Certificate of Completion from Kennedy School.
Shawn, while never physically able to fully participate in sports, would earn ribbons and medals from Special Olympics. Shawn was a devoted life-long Cubs fan. He did not, however, share that passion for Chicago's other professional teams. In fact, quite the opposite.
On Saturday, December 4, 2010, after a long struggle, Shawn departed this life, while at home, attended by his Mom and Dad. Shawn, who has always enjoyed special attention, would have had it no other way.
Shawn leaves his family to mourn his passing while celebrating and cherishing his memories: Parents Ray and Flora, Brothers, Ronald, Alan (Angela) of New London, Connecticut, and Wesley (Bethany) of Amersterdam, New York. Shawn will also be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by a number of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and a host of Cousins.
