Obituary

Sandra Kay (Stoner) Powell was born in Providence, Kentucky on March 19, 1947, to Dorothy M. Stoner and Walter L. Hackett. Lovingly raised by her Aunt Fannie and Fannie's husband, Walter Earl, Sandra attended Rosenwald School in Providence, Kentucky, and later Booker T. Washington School and Crispus Attucks High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. In 1967 Sandra became the bride of Ben Powell, formerly of Bartow, Georgia. Sherry is the couple's only child.

Working as a domestic in individual family homes since her youth allowed Sandra to develop the skills to become part of the Hospitality Industry when she moved from Providence to Paducah, Kentucky.  Best Western and Country Inns and Suites were among the hotels which benefitted from Sandra's expertise and diligence. Sandra was always proud to receive accolades when her hotel properties were inspected.

Sandra's most notable hobby was that of conversing with her friends. She thoroughly enjoyed having telephone conversations with friends and family members, often keeping them company or lifting their spirits through a daily phone call.

Sandra accepted the Lord as her Savior and submitted to water baptism under the pastoral care of Elder Eugene Marable. In her latter years, Sister Sandra returned to Providence, fervently sought the Lord, and was transformed by the Christian love she received and shared with the community of believers at Marable Temple Church of God in Christ.

On the afternoon of Monday, November 27, 2023, Sister Sandra entered into eternal rest at her residence in Avamere Park Place Assisted Living in Portland, Oregon. Her husband, parents and dear aunt preceded her in death.

Sandra leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Sherry Moore (Andre) of Beaverton, Oregon; one grandchild, Amanda J. Moore of Beaverton Oregon; brothers-in-law Oscar (Jerlene) and Torris (Mary) Powell of Providence, Kentucky; Sisters-in-law Alma Jean Medley of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Katie Hughley of Macon, Georgia, and Carolyn Browder of Providence, Kentucky; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and many, many friends. She treasured you all in her heart.

Services were held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Marable Temple Church of God in Christ in Providence, Kentucky.
