Sammy Hunter was one of three children born to Ola Lee Kane and Jerry Hunter. He was born on July 26, 1944. Both parents and his brothers: Richard Hunter of Clinton, KY, Gregory Thorpe of Louisville, KY, George Thorpe of Fulton, KY and two sisters: Katherine Hawkins of Maryland, Virginia and Martha Baker of Louisville, KY all preceded him in death.
Sammy gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of Green Valley Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served as Treasurer until the Lord took him home.
After Sammy graduated from high school, he joined the United States Army and spent three years in Italy where he learned to speak Italian fluently. Shortly after leaving the military, he ended up working for a Paper Mill in Wickliffe, KY called Westvaco and just recently received a gold watch for reaching forty years of faithful service. He loved working at Westvaco, he never once complained about being there because he looked at everyone he worked with as extended family. He loved all his co-workers dearly.
On December 22, 1973, he married the love of his life, Ms. Norma L. Stray of Hickman, KY. and they had three lovely children together: Eric R. Hunter, Samuel K. Hunter, Jr. and Brandon Hunter. Sammy was a loving husband, father, brother, co-worker and friend. He was truly loved by many and will be deeply missed. We will meet again!!!!
