Remembering Rose
We walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)
"Dear god I pray for my family and friends in your name, Amen."
(Quoted from Rose's own bible notes)
On Friday, November 6 th , 3:50 pm, at the age 66, Rose A. Smith (my anchor) made a much too early transition to eternal rest. She was born in Cairo, IL on August 6 th 1954, to the late Lula Mae and Leroy Smith; She lived in Gary, IN for 12 years and in Paducah, KY for over 20 years.
She was a member of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Paducah, KY, where she served as president of the usher board. She also had a big heart for children, which led to her working at Elka Daycare in Gary, IN; Cairo Headstart and Paducah City School Headstart. Those children who are adults now consider Rose as a 2 nd mother.
Rose was a supportive and devoted mother, a care-giver, a friend for life, and a breast cancer survivor. She was quick to give a smile, had a love for laughter, enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, and affectionately addressed loved-ones as "baby-boy or baby-girl."
Rose was about to retire from Paducah Headstart soon and planned on relocating close to her son and live out her remaining days on this earth. She leaves to cherish her memory: One Son , Charles Smith of Jacksonville, FL and One Daughter , Angel Smith of Paducah, KY; Three Sisters , Wilma J. Johnson of Paducah, KY, Barbara Holder of Robinsdale, MN, and Diane Purnell of Gary, IN; Two Brothers , Kent J. Smith of Paducah, KY and Darwin A. Smith of Mounds, IL; One Grand-Daughter , Beijz I. Smith of Jacksonville, FL; Over Forty (40) Nieces & Nephews ; Special Shout Out To Other Extended Family Members : Lashawn, Mr. Clarence, Ms. Barbara, Ms Beverly, Ms Sandra, Mr. George & his wife, Ms Rainey, Ms Laurie, Numerous Coworkers, Many Other Friends, And Lucy (Her Dog).
