Richard O. Rowland, Sr., 63, Paducah, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, 5:45 a.m., at his residence.
Richard was a member of First Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He attended faithfully, even through his illness. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era . Richard graduated from Dunbar High School in Mayfield and West Kentucky Vocational School where he received certification in Carpentry and Masonry. He also attended Murray State University.
Richard was formerly employed many years by the Corps of Engineers and was a self-employed contractor. He was co-owner of Pettus-Rowland Funeral home and a licensed funeral director in both Kentucky and Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther B. Rowland and Voes Todd Rowland; one sister, Mary V. Rowland; and one daughter, Eureka Nicole Pettus.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Mary Pettus-Rowland, Paducah; two sons Richard O. Rowland, Jr., Louisville and Richard Warfield, Brookport, IL; one granddaughter Armani Warfield of Brookport, IL; one brother, Charles (Earline) Rowland, Chicago, IL; two nephews Devin (Marilyn) Rowland, Chicago, IL and Darryl (Renee) Rowland, Evansville, IN; one uncle, Robert (Floyd) Rowland, Mayfield; one aunt, Dora M. Duffy, Palo Alto, CA; a host of cousins; two brothers-in-law, Thomas (Brenda) Pettus of Paducah and Marshall White of Orlando, FL; two sisters-in-law, Joann (Earnest) Hamilton of Paducah and Delois Wardelle of Louisville; and many friends.
Services are scheduled for 12:00 Noon, Friday, July 24, 2009, at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1126 Harrison Street of Paducah with Reverend James L. Hudson and Reverend Charles W. Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church and again on Friday, July 24, 2009, from 10:00 am until the funeral hour at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Liberty Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 So. 12th St., Paducah, KY 42003.
