Reverend Anthony Dewayne Reeves, 49, of Mayfield, KY, formerly of Paducah, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011, 6:08 p.m. at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
He was a native of Hopkinsville, KY where he graduated from Christian County High School. He attended Murray State University and the University of Winston-Salem where he obtained his degree in nursing and was formerly employed at Countryside Health Care of Bardwell.
His ministerial career began at the age of 14 when he accepted his call to the ministry. Church Hill Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY was the first church where he served as pastor. He traveled extensively preaching and singing the gospel throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana and North & South Carolinas. He was a talented musician, director, and served as Minister of Music for several churches and choirs.
Pastorates in the area included Smith Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church and St. James A.M.E Churches both of Mayfield, KY; Shelton Chapel A.M.E Church of Viola, KY; Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church of Wingo, KY and St. James A.M.E. Church of Pryorsburg, KY.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma J. Reeves.
Survivor's include his wife, Ollie Mary Bright Reeves of Mayfield, KY; his father, Charles D. Reeves of Pembroke, KY; His step-Mother, Martha Tolovier Reeves, Pembroke, KY; a sister, Michelle(Greg) Babb of Hopkinsville, KY; a brother, Timothy Reeves of Hopkinsville, KY; a foster sister, Mary Pettus Rowland, Paducah, KY; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the St. James A.M.E. Church, 419 South 8th Street, Mayfield, KY. with Reverend Buster Johnson to officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Rest Cemetery of Mayfield, KY. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
