Obituary

Reverend James A "Jimmie" Hodge, 89, Paducah, KY, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 8:25 P.M. at Western Baptist Hospital.

Rev. Hodge was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an Associate Minister. Rev. Hodge was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School. He received his BTh Degree and Doctor of Divinity degree from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, and his BS Degree from New Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Rev. Hodge was also a Licensed Funeral Director and co-owner of the former Hodge Funeral Home. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War conflict as Chaplain.

He began his Ministry in 1933 at the age of 11. During his Pastoral tenure of nearly 80 years, Rev. Hodge Pastored throughout Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. He was a Duke of Paducah.

He was preceded in death by his parents James C. Hodge and Inez Dobson Hodge, two brothers, Alvin "Red" Dobson and Jasper C. Hodge, two sisters, Mary Campbell Hodge and Corine Hodge.

Rev. Hodge is survived by his wife, Margaret Hodge, Clarkston, GA, seven sons, Bishop Paul (Liz) Jones Hodge, Cairo, IL., Correy Hodge, United States Air Force, Rapid City, SD, James A. Hodge, Lexington, KY, Robert L. Hodge, Water Valley, KY, Bennie Hodge, Detroit, MI, Darryl D. Hodge and Alvin Hodge, both of Paducah; three daughters, Deborah Hodge, Nanuet, New York, Starry M. Hodge, Flint, MI, and Annquinett Bridgeport, Chicago, IL; several grand children, great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2011, 12:00 Noon at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Calvin R. Cole, Sr. officiating. Burial will be Monday, June 13, 2011, 11:30 a.m. at Mounds National Cemetery in Mounds City, Illinois.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 1201 South 8th Street, Paducah, KY 42003.
