Michael Taylor Fitzgerald, Sr., was born the 8th child of 11 that was born to late Milton F. Fitzgerald, Sr., and Carrie Ann Taylor Fitzgerald on Friday May 7, 1948, in Paducah, Kentucky.
Michael is proceeded in death by both of his parents Milton F. Fitzgerald, Sr., and Carrie Ann Fitzgerald, five sisters, Evelyn, Marsha, Norma Jean, Dorenda, Carrie Elizabeth and two brothers Milton F. Fitzgerald, Jr. and Norman Fitzgerald.
Michael accepted Christ at a very young age and was baptized at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church. He took great pride in his relationship with God and maintained a strong relationship with God throughout his life.
Michael attended high school in Paducah, Kentucky at Lincoln High School and later transferred and graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in 1966. Michael was a great athlete and was very active in his favorite sports, basketball, and football during his time in high school. Upon, graduating high school in 1966, he attended college at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1967, he transferred to the University of Southern California as a Pre-Med student until being drafted into the United States Military in 1968. Michael would go on to serve 17 years of service in the United States Airforce in active and reserves status. He was honorably discharged and spent the remainder of his career in Veteran Affairs as a Clinical Pharmacist for the VA Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana until retiring in 1999.
While in Shreveport, Michael met his life partner and wife Leartette "Leot''Jamison-Fitzgerald. To this union was born one daughter Michelle Taylor Fitzgerald.
Michael loved his children, siblings, and sports as well as his pet dogs. He cherished his relationships with his loved ones and held family at the highest regard. He was kind, considerate, and often looked at as the "Big" uncle of the family.
Michael, will always be remember and cherished by his loving wife Leot; Two daughters, Ashley Michelle Fitzgerald-Phill (Christopher) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Michelle Taylor Fitzgerald of St. Louis, Missouri; Five sons, Michael Taylor Fitzgerald, Jr.(Yanina) of Santa Monica, California, Quinton Hunn Fitzgerald of Santa Monica, California, Kevin Lamar Fitzgerald (Ati) of San Francisco, California, Michael Paul Phillips of Shreveport, Louisiana and Johnathan Robert Walton of Shreveport, Louisiana; One granddaughter, Imaan Fitzgerald; One grandson, Kareem Fitzgerald; Two sisters, Sheila Faye Shumpert (Willie) and Sharon Overstreet (Dan), one brother Milo Fitzgerald (Phyllis); Three sisters-in-laws; Irma J. Jamison, Anniece J. Clark (Melvin), and Claudette Jamison; Two brother-in-laws; Morris Lockett and Charles Jamison, Four dogs; Jackie Da Dog", Reignbeaux, Pinto, and BrownMan "Moses". He has a special place in the hearts of a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, 12 noon at the Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dell Terry and Rev. James Hudson and Minister Jewel Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
