On Tuesday, January 21, 1951, Mary Patricia Roundtree was born the lovely daughter to Hertha M. Lewis Roundtree and the late Solomon O. Roundtree in Metropolis, Illinois. Mary, "Patti" as she was so lovingly called by both family and friends, was peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home at 5:45 am, Monday morning, September 15, 2014, from Paducah, Kentucky. At the time of her transition, Patti had journeyed here on earth for 63 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
Patti accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and joined First Missionary Baptist Church of Metropolis, Illinois. She was both faithful and dedicated in serving Christ in any department of the church. She served diligently as the chairman of the Culinary Department and was a member of both the Hospitality Committee and the Women's Mission Board of which she was once the treasurer.
Patti was a 1969 graduate of Joppa High School and went on to attend Shawnee College and Southern Illinois University of Carbondale where she received an Associate's Degree in Education.
Patti united in holy matrimony to her sweetheart, Phillip Barfield of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and became "Mrs. Mary Patricia Roundtree Barfield" on Saturday, September 16, 1972, at the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Metropolis. As a loving couple, Phillip and his new bride Patti for many years set up residence in Brookfield, Wisconsin raised their family and then later decided to permanently return to Metropolis to live in 2009.
Patti was a true worker who had held employment with both Assurant Health and Briggs and Stratton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After many years of dedicated employment, Mary retired as a Human Resource Manager for Assurant Health.
Patti loved cooking and sharing happy times with family and friends. She was known to many as the "Hostess With The Mostest". Patti was a traveler; she thoroughly enjoyed cruising the seas and visiting various ports of interest. Patti was also a marathon runner and a bowler with the Pacesetter's Monday Night League. To her family she was both a "Loving Wife and a Wonderful Mother". She looked out for everyone, freely giving from her heart and willing to help anyone in need. Patti had a "Helpful Spirit". She was a Die-Hard Green Bay Packer Fan and had a special nickname for all her grandchildren whether one liked it or not.
