Lorna Jean (Booker) Burley 68, of Ashburn, VA passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024. A Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend – Lorna leaves a legacy of faith, love, and service to others.
Born on August 2, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to Johnny and Sylvia Booker. Lorna is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Laurence A. Burley, Jr.; her mother, Sylvia (Booker) Huff; her siblings, Billy Huff and Rise Huff; her son, Macy Booker and daughter-in-law, Nadia Booker; her granddaughters, Alicia Schumacher-Serrano and Jayla Booker. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lora is preceded in death by her father, Johnny Booker, her brother, Lloyd Booker and her sister, Lydia Rooks.
She graduated from Kettering High School in Detroit and later pursued her passion for healthcare, earning an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Paducah Community College (now West Kentucky Community and Technical College). Hera academic excellence was recognized by being named in "Who's Who in Colleges and Universities."
Lorna devoted her career to serving others as a Registered Nurse working in emergency rooms across several hospitals across Kentucky, Illinois and Virginia.
She retired in 2021 as an Advice Nurse from Kaiser Permanente in Fair Oaks, VA leaving an indelible mark on her colleagues and patients. Over her career, Lorna's skill, love of mentoring new nurses and commitment to providing compassionate care led to many letters of appreciation from colleagues and patients.
Lorna was known for her vibrant and loving spirit. She enjoyed the beach, bowling, tennis, attending concerts, exploring zoos, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her family to her dedication to the Lord's church. Lorna was an active member of the Dulles Church of Christ in Ashburn, VA since its founding in 2007.
Lorna's life was a testament to love and service. Her compassion and dedication to her family, friends and faith will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lorna's life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, 12 Noon at Ninth Street Church of Christ with Brother Mark Rowe and Brother Eric Doss officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her honor to organizations she supported throughout her life – The American Heart Association, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Purple Heart Foundation.
