Lloyd H. Fortune, 97, Paducah, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, 11:40 a.m. at his home in Paducah, KY.
Mr. Fortune was a member of Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, usher and choir member. He was a thirty-one year veteran of the United States Army serving during the World War II conflict.
Mr. Fortune served as chairman of the Paducah Human Rights Commission, and was a member of the NAACP, the McCracken County Citizen Board, Paducah Breakfast Lions Club, Pacesetters Bowling League and former member of the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club, a member of Pamper Inc. where he served as treasurer; former President of River City Senate Bowling League.
Mr. Fortune was preceded in death by his parents Chester Mansfield Fortune and Elizabeth Juanita Howard; one son, Lloyd Fortune, Jr.; and two brothers
Mr. Fortune is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susie Walters Fortune, Paducah, KY; two daughters, Beryl Terry, Highland Hills, NY , and Elizabeth Burden, West Babylon, NY; one step daughter Renee Walters, Paducah, KY, one stepson, Reverend Keith Walters, Paducah, KY. Six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 6:00 P. M. Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Washington Street, Paducah, KY 42003, with Reverend Raynarldo Henderson officiating, Burial will be Thursday, November 10, 2011, 11:30 A.M. at the Mounds National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois
The family will receive visitors at 4:00 P. M. until the funeral hour on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church.
