Deaconess Krystal Renee Mays, a beloved member of Just By Faith Ministries in Metropolis, llinois, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 15, 2026. Born on July 8, 1982, Krystal was a radiant soul whose faith and dedication touched many lives throughout her 43 years.
A steadfast and devoted member of her church community, Deaconess Krystal served faithfully as a Deaconess and was deeply involved in youth ministry work. Her commitment to her faith was evident to all who knew her. She found great joy in coming to church and singing along with the choir. Her favorite selection was “You Brought Me a Mighty Long Way.” Deaconess Krystal’s had a great love for reading, watching movies, and listening to music.
Deaconess Krystal was a 2000 graduate of Massac County High School and worked as a cashier at Kroger Fuel, where her friendly smile and warm personality were cherished by colleagues and customers alike. Above all, her heart belonged to her children, to whom she was a loving and devoted mother.
Her loved ones include her husband, Gregory Lynn Mays; daughter, MaKenzi Mays; stepson, Bentlee Carl; mother, Glenda Arrison; brothers, Darren Sullenger and Jimmy Sullenger; sisters, Lisa Collier, Michelle Gossman, and Tina Helton; stepmother, Esther Sullenger; and daughter-in-law, Alexis Clark, fathers-inlaw, Albert Hill and Robert Carter, and a wide circle of brothersand sisters-in-law, including Tylas (Checone) Mays, James (Angie) Mays, James (Jasmine) Wright, Keith (Leigh Ann) Woods, Salam Muhamad, Cassandra Mays, Rhonda (Vernon) Jackson and Tiffany Wright and her church family. The lives of her family, her church family, and her friends were enriched by her presence. She held a Trusting and Respectful relationship with Pastor Gwendolyn Addison-Duncan, her family's Spiritual Confidant.
Deaconess Krystal was preceded in death by her son, TraShaun Mays; her father, Eddie Sullenger; brothers, Terry Sullenger, Butch Sullenger, and Steve Roberts, and a cherished nephew, Amontre Shelton. The memories and the legacy she leaves behind affirm the deep love that surrounded her life.
Deaconess Krystal Renee Mays will be remembered as a beautiful soul whose faith, kindness, and love were boundless. Her legacy of devotion to family, church, and community will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.
A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, 1:30 p.m. at Just By Faith Ministries in Metropolis, IL with the Reverend Dr. Gwendolyn Addison-Duncan officiating.
