Obituary

After 60 years and 11 months of bringing joy and happiness to everyone she encountered, our beloved Kimberly "Kim" Shay Cavitt gained her wings to join our Lord on July 28, 2025.

Kim entered this world on August 13, 1964, in Fulton, KY, the daughter of George Chambers and Donna Jean Cavitt.

Kim graduated from Fulton High School in 1982, then continued her education at Bethel College, where she also played basketball.

Kim accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Paducah, where she was very active as a devoted choir member. One of her greatest passions was cooking because she gained a deep fulfillment in feeding people.

Kim worked hard all her life, sometimes working 2 jobs while cooking and selling plate lunches to ensure the needs of her family were met.  While living in Paducah, she touched the lives of many before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where she landed her dream job of working for Delta Airlines.

Kim was employed with Delta Airlines for 15 years until her untimely death. She worked as a baggage handler and later moved into the position of Cargo Claims Customer Service Care. During her years at Delta, she touched the lives of many people. She was well-known and appreciated for her generosity, sense of humor, and work ethic. If you wanted something done, you knew that Kim would get it done!

One thing that everyone knew about Kim was her love for shoes, especially sneakers! She had a collection like no other --- in every style, color, and design. Kim was known for her kind, nurturing spirit, and unwavering devotion to family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was a guiding light to many, often embraced as an adopted daughter, sister, and mother. With her warm smile and generous heart, she left a lasting imprint on everyone she met. Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will live on in the countless lives she inspired.

Kim was a people person and loved her friends hard.  She was a giver to those whom she loved and did not hesitate to show it with her gifts.  If she knew you needed or wanted something, she would go out of her way to make sure you had it; and it had to be the best.

Kim leaves to cherish her memory: ; Her children, Donyee' Cavitt (Carolyn Dodson), Terris "Sally" Grandison (Patrick Grandison); Her Grandchildren, Khyran Noell Grandison, Geonni Skai Grandison, Denver Sophia Reign Cavitt, & Landon Walker; Her father, George (Gwen) Chambers; Her siblings, Richard Cavitt, Jeffrey (Debbie) Vaughn, Scott Vaughn  (Keshia), Hollye Chambers, and TraVonda Vaughn; Her uncles, Paul "Butch" (Susan) Alexander, Michael (Donna) Alexander, J.T. Cavitt; Her step-father, Elbert Jack (Stella) Vaughn, Her adopted parents, James and Joanne Alexander; Her 'favorite cousin', Randall Cross; Her special friend for many years, Donna Ingram, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death was Her mother, Donna Cavitt-Vaughn, Grandparents, Mary Margaret Rucker and J. T. Cavitt, Aunts, Phyllis Rouse & Ponthola Harris, Uncles, Phillip Alexander and Jerry Rucker and the father of her children, Charles DunnieJackson.  She was also preceded in death by her dearest friend, Sheila Alexander Brewer.

To all her friends, you know you all held a special place in her heart, and for that, we are truly thankful.  Kim will be greatly missed by her family, extended family, and friends who knew her as the loving person she was.
