Kenneth Thomas, 84, of Metropolis, IL, died Monday April 6, 2009 at 4:00 a.m. at Metropolis Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Thomas was a member of Mt. Horeb Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee. He is a WWII Veteran of the United States Army, and a former member of Silver Crown Masonic Lodge #26. He was a retired Laborer with the City of Metropolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Thomas and Della B. Goodman Thomas, one son, Robert Akins Sr., one daughter, Mattie White, and one granddaughter; four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Lee Bogan Thomas of Lexington, KY; four daughters, Carolyn McManus, of LaCenter, KY; Bobbie Craig, of Lexington, KY; Mary Hansen, and Sudie Cofield, both of Metropolis, IL; two sons, Everett Thomas, Jr. of Joppa, IL; and Rev. Clyde Akins, of Lexington, KY.; one sister, Jo Martha Clark of Metropolis, IL; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services were at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Mt. Horeb Freewill Baptist Church, 901 Pearl Street, Metropolis, IL. Dr. C.B. Akins, Sr., officiated and burial followed in Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis, IL.
