Karen Nunn Luney, fondly known as "KK," peacefully passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving a legacy of compassion and laughter.
Karen was born on August 25, 1950, in Paducah, Kentucky, to Marvin Nunn and Irma Lee Pleasant Nunn. From a young age, she was known for her love of reading and her advocacy for the rights of others. Karen graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School and went on to further her education at Murray State University and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Karen's academic journey led her to earn a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work. Her dedication and expertise in the field were such that she later became an Adjunct Professor at that same institution. Eventually, she transitioned into K-12 counseling, showcasing her commitment to supporting and guiding students through their educational and personal development.
Karen devoted her life to supporting underprivileged children across multiple Jefferson County Public Schools. Starting as a clinical social worker and later transitioning into the role as a detention associate, she tirelessly advocated for those in need, providing guidance and hope to individuals navigating difficult circumstances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Nunn and Irma Pleasant Nunn and is survived by her two sons, Charles Jeffrey Luney, II (Selena) and Ryan Christopher Luney (Michelle), along with four grandchildren: Savannah, Canon, Shayna, and Shai.
Karen is fondly remembered by her seven siblings: Winfred Nunn (Sharon), Emily Nunn Bowman (Lionel, deceased), Anita Nunn Sparks (James), Nancy Nunn Ferguson (James), Marvin Nunn Jr (Lolete), Phyllis Nunn, and Brian Nunn (Angela). Additionally, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Her absence has left a significant void in the hearts of all who knew her. There will be a cherished memory forever of the laughter and brightness she brought into the lives of those she touched.
A memorial service to celebrate Karen's life is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Washington Street Baptist Church, 721 Washington Street in Paducah with Reverend Raynarldo Henderson presiding. Prior to the service, friends may pay their respects to the family starting at 10:00 A.M. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed from 10:50 A.M. on the Pettus Rowland Funeral Home, LLC Facebook page at pettusrowlandfh.com.
