IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jonah Walker,
Jr.
May 5, 1955 – January 8, 2024
Jonah Walker, Jr., age 68, of Paducah, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, 11:53 a.m., at Baptist Health Hospital.
Jonah was a member of Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and with the male chorus, and at one time coached his daughter Semika's basketball team. He retired after more than 35 years of service as a lab technician with Ashland Chemical and served as a Veteran in the United States Army.
Jonah had an outgoing personality that guaranteed a "good time" whenever you were in his presence. He was fun to be around, always joking yet he had a serious nature, too. He loved to bowl and was a member of the Pace Setters. His passion for self-development led him to become an avid weightlifter and, consequently, became a member of the 300 Club with God's Gym. In his younger years he enjoyed Karate and passed his love of the sport to his daughter. He jokingly referred to himself as the "Post Man" because he always delivered on the basketball court. He was a devoted grandfather who provided for his grandchild whatever they needed.
He is survived by two daughters, Semika Walker of Atlanta, GA and Alisha Walker of Paducah; one grandson, Derran Freeman of Paducah; one sister, Shelia Walker of Murfreesboro, TN; three nephews, Mario Walker and Tyrone Holliman, both of Baltimore, MD and Rondell Walker of Memphis, TN; two nieces, Courtney Walker and Tanisha (Bryant) Wilson, both of Murfreesboro, TN; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, especially in Atlanta, GA and Cleveland, OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Walker; his parents, Jonah Walker, Sr. and Jean Mosby Jackson; one brother, Ralph Walker, one sister, Sharon Walker Parker and a nephew, Elliott Walker.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 19, 2024, 12:00 Noon at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. James L. Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
The service will be livestreamed beginning at 11:50 a.m., CST on the Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home, LLC Facebook Page on our website at pettusrowlandfh.com.
