John B. Tyson, Jr. 96, Metropolis, IL, died Sunday, January 13, 2013, 12:55 am at Metropolis Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, Illinois.
Mr. Tyson was a member First Missionary Baptist Church of Metropolis, IL where he served on the Deacon Board. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Tyson retired after 30 years of service from Tennessee Valley Authority and also was also a part-time mail carrier.
Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Tyson, Sr. and Elizabeth Duffy; one grandson Ryan Scott, one great grandson Kobie Tyson; six brothers, and five sisters.
He survived by his wife of 61 years, Mollie B. Tyson, Metropolis, IL; three sons, Caster D. Tyson, Centralia, IL, Mike Tyson and Mitchal Tyson, Both of Metropolis, IL; three daughters, JoAnn Lay, Centralia, IL, Rosie Eskridge and Benita Reynolds, both of Metropolis, IL; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one sister, Elner Walden of California. Several nieces nephews cousins and other relatives.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Thursday, January 17, 2013 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Metropolis, IL with Reverend Jackie Meadows and Reverend Edward Ballard officiating. Burial will be Friday, January 18, 2013, 11:30 am at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, IL.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour at the church.
