Obituary

"Asleep in Jesus! Blessed sleep from which none ever wakes to weep;
A calm and undisturbed repose, unbroken by the last of foes."

James Alvin Taylor affectionately known as "Big Daddy" was born on June 27, 1918, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to the union of the late Ambrose Taylor and the former Tennia Hayes Taylor. He left his earthly life for eternal rest from his residence in Paducah on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 12:45 P.M. At the time of his departure to his heavenly home he was 91 years, 9 months, and 28 days of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie C. Taylor, whom he cherished and cared for faithfully even in her sickness for 68 years.

Brother James Taylor was a faithful servant of God, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Church financial manager at Ware Memorial Church of God In Christ where he had been a member since 1946. Brother James Taylor accepted Christ during his tenure in the US Army and served faithfully under the pastorate of Elder J.J. Ware. His Favorite song was "I'm A Soldier in the Army of The Lord". He along with Elder Gip Broyles were very instrumental in digging the foundation of the church by hand. Brother Taylor was district president of the YPWW Department for many years and received the "National Deacon Award", presented by Bishop Charles E. Blake. After 40 years of continuous hard labor, James retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

Brother Taylor enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took the time and with love and compassion, taught his great-grandsons the art of fishing with the catch of the day in mind.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories:
