Obituary

James Johnson, 88, of Paducah, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, 4:15 p.m., at his residence.

Mr. Johnson was a faithful and dedicated 50 year member of St. John A.M.E. Church where he served as usher and steward. He was a US Army Veteran, serving during World War II and was a 32 year retiree of Union Carbide.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Addie L. Cheairs Johnson of Paducah; a son, Syvord "Chet" (Pat) Steward of Chicago, Il; a daughter, Elizabeth Johnson Rogers of Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Phillip Steward of Memphis, TN and Clint (Antuanette) Johnson of Orlando, FL; one granddaughter, Tracy Jones of Chicago, IL; four great-grandsons, Christion James Johnson, Cameron Alexander Johnson, Antwon Jones and Bryan Jones; four great-granddaughters, Keshonna Steward, Tennetta Steward, Sophia Elizabeth Johnson and Zoraida Jones; a daughter-in-law, Stella Steward of Chicago, IL; a sister, Willie Hard and a brother, Robert Johnson, both of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Guy Johnson and Fannie Mae Skelton Johnson and ten sisters and brothers.

The family will receive visitors at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home on Thursday, July 1, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 3:00 P.M., in Bolivar, TN at the Dixie Funeral Home, located at 750 Bills Street, Rverend Andrew Cheairs will officiate, and burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Grand Junction, TN.

The family acknowledges their hearts are filled with gratitude to Western Baptist Home Health for the patient and compassionate care provided by nurses Kate and Angie, and the HHA's, Donna and Greg. They also give special thanks to Karen Wilson, caregiver, for her dedication and commitment.
