Life Legacy

Herschel Dungey, Jr. was born on December 21, 1944, to the parents of Herschel Dungey, Sr. and Arminta Dungey.

Herschel departed this life on June 4, 2017.

Herschel Dungey, Jr., before coming to Paducah almost five years ago as Human Resources Director for the City of Paducah, lived most of his life in Chicago.  There he was reared by his mother, a single Head of Household.  He was educated in the Chicago Public School System, and developed a belief in God early in life. Having only one older brother who did not live at home, when not in school, he spent his free time at the local Boys Club and library. He played basketball in high school and college, receiving a scholarship at Miami of Ohio University. After staying in college for only a year, he left school and enlisted in the United States Army. After three years in Asia and Europe (he was to re-enter the military again as an Officer eight years later), he left the army and returned to college earning an Associate, Bachelor, and three Master Degrees. Herschel had over thirty years experience in Human Resources and Personnel Management in the private and public sectors plus had worked for over six years in the Not-for-Profit sector.  He formed his own consulting firm, Solution Sources, Inc. prior to coming to Paducah.

For eighteen years he was an Adjunct Professor in the College of Business and Public Administration at Governors State University, teaching both Graduate and Undergraduate courses.  He and his wife Linda were members of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and sang in the Male Chorus. Other organizational affiliations were: Board of Directors, Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club, River Heritage Museum, and was a member of Member Stone Square Masonic Lodge #5 (P.H.A.), Past Patron of Queen Esther Chapter # 4,  N.A.A.C.P., Rotary Club of Paducah, Lions Club, and McCracken County Community Career Endowment, Inc.

Herschel retired to Olathe, Kansas in 2011, where he served as a Deacon of the Second Baptist Church of Olathe, Kansas. In addition, he also worked on multiple committees of the Johnson County N.A.A.C.P.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, 1:00 PM, at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1201 South 8th Street, Paducah, KY.

Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Masonic Rites will also be conducted at the church on Saturday at 12:00 NOON.

Burial will follow Monday, June 19, 2017, 12:30 PM, at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois.
