Herbert Lymar Bradford

Our family and friends, It is with profound sadness and sorrow, we gather to announce the heavenly transition of our beloved father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Herbert Lymar Bradford on September 9, 2026 at 10:10 p.m. at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.

Herbert is preceded in his passing by: Alice Marie Bradford (Mother), Orland Odell Bradford (Father), Charles Edward Bradford (Brother), Sherry Reyes (Half-Sister), and Orlando Cruze-Reyes (Half-Brother).

Herbert leaves those to cherish in his memories his Children: Ly’Mar Izaiha Bradford, Elizyah Bradford. Step-Children: Maria Arredondo, Knoah Arredondo-Aquino. Siblings: Deloris Bradford, Derrick Bradford, Calvin & Joy Bradford, Loretta & Dale Darensburg, Charlene & David Daughtery, as well as many other beloved family and friends.

Born January 16, 1964 to Alice Marie Bryant-Bradford and Orland Odell Bradford in Metropolis, IL. Following his graduation from Massac County High School, Herbert entered basic training for the United States Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After his completion of training, Herbert was immediately assigned as part of the 82nd Airborne Division deployed to Point Salines Airfield, Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury from 1983-1984. Proceeding his deployment, Herbert was stationed at Kaiserslautern Military Community Base in Germany as a Motor Transport Operator part of the 66th Transportation Company from 1984-1989. After serving six years in the United States Army, Herbert received an honorable discharge from service and returned home to Metropolis, IL.

 In 1999, Herbert would welcome to the world his firstborn son Ly’Mar Izaiha Bradford, making him a father of three with his step-children Maria Bonita Arredondo and Knoah Marcos Arredondo-Aquino. In 2002, with the birth of his son Elizyah O’Dale Bradford, Herbert would become a father of four amazing children. With every waking moment, he loved his children more than life itself. Lamentably, Herbert battled alcoholism throughout most of his life. Eventually, leading to multiple accidents and health complications that contributed to his untimely passing. Though he was not victorious in this lifelong battle, he was a champion in winning the hearts and souls of any and all who were lucky enough to share even one moment of life with him. Herbert will always be remembered for his heart of gold, willingness to give his all, and character beyond even the most wild imagination.

Herbert, you will truly be missed by us all. We love you and pray to meet again beyond the Holy gates of Heaven. God rest your soul. Amen.
