Obituary

Henry Louis Johnson, Jr. was born on January 1, 1970, to the blessed union of Reverend Henry Louis Johnson, Sr. and Jean Marie Johnson. Born in Chicago, Illinois, at Mercy Hospital, Henry was later known as “Hank” or “Stone” to many of his friends.

Henry was a gifted student at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Chicago and, consequently, was promoted from 3rd to 5th grade. At Curie High School, he was the drum major. He later continued his education at Loop Junior College, where he majored in music. One of the highlights of his young life was being featured on television for his many academic achievements, as well as the courage he displayed as the first African American to enter St. Elizabeth Catholic School.

Henry accepted Christ early in his youth and was baptized at the Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the choir as a drummer and a soloist and attended the Youth Samaritan Ministry and Sunday School. His musical talent as a percussionist led to a position as drummer on the recording “Peace in the Midst of the Storm” by artist Princella Brady Lee.

Henry enjoyed living life to its fullest. He was blessed with a fun-loving spirit and was loved by all his peers, friends, and family. He was known for his generous personality and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved to laugh and was always telling a joke. His love for all sports was unmatched; he wouldn’t miss a game. He loved his family, friends and his children to death as he would always say. Henry was just a “Stand-Up Guy.” Days before his earthly departure, in the presence of family and friends, Henry recommitted his life to Christ while in Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his Loving Mother, Jean Marie Goldsby Johnson of Metropolis, IL; Three Sons, Rico (Amanda) Ramsey of Houston, TX, Khenodray Johnson of Paducah, KY, and Kylan (Phenyx) Johnson of Melbourne, FL; Four Daughters, Cheniyah Wells of Paducah, KY, Kesi (Khadijah) Hughes of Atlanta, GA, Jordan Johnson, Janae Johnson, both of Chicago, IL; his Significant Other, Amanda Simmons of Paducah, KY; One Brother, “Big Reese” of Metropolis, IL; Five Grandchildren; Aunt, Delores Edwards of Hemet, CA; Uncle, Lemuel Johnson, of Chicago, IL; a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends, his Best Friend for over 50 years, Terry Brown a good friend, and also J Rock, Marquis Anthony both of Chicago, IL, all his children’s mother and his dog, Lady GaGa.

Preceding him in death were his father, Reverend Henry Louis Johnson, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Olivia Haroway, paternal grandmother, Mamie Johnson and one aunt, Katherine Chapman.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in Metropolis, IL with Reverend Dr. Orlando McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah.
