Journey Of A Lifetime
Our beloved, Hattie Burgess Hunter, began her journey of life on Friday, July 16, 1915, in Eudora, Arkansas to the late Henry Burgess and Lula West Burgess. God dispatched an angel from heaven to take home "Our Loving Mother" on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 1:13 p.m. from Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. The angel whispered these words,
"Come on home for your journey on earth is surely done."
Realizing the need for spiritual and divine guidance, she started her journey of faith after accepting Christ as her personal Savior. Mama later in life joined Green Valley Missionary Baptist Church where her faithful service included membership in both the Missionary Ministry
and Usher Ministry. She also served on the Mothers' Board and held numerous positions in various other ministries of the church. She was also a member of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service Homemakers Club and the Community Service Club.
On January 9, 1935, in Clinton, Kentucky, she was united in Holy Matrimony with David Hunter. This union was blessed with eight daughters and one son. Her husband David; twins Louis Hunter and Inez Hunter; and daughter Ernestine Hunter preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four brothers Louis Burgess, Elmo Burgess, Jewel "Buddy" Burgess, Henry Burgess, two sisters Sherzie Burgess and Mattie Burgess Wiggins and sons-in-law Curley Lee Ford and Edgar Lee Johnson, Sr., and special friend Earl Crisp, Jr.
Mama was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed singing, gardening, quilting, and spending quality time with family, her many friends, and especially her grandchildren who affectionately called her "GG" Mama's comments to everyone who visited her as they prepared to leave were "Look toward the hills from whence cometh your help. Your help comes from the Lord. Prayer is the key to the kingdom, and faith opens the door."
