Gloria J. Owens, age 78 of Paducah, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 6, 2022 at approximately 9:41 a.m.
Gloria, an ordained minister, was a faithful member of Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries where she served as the church musician, on the finance committee, in the Sunday School department, Usher Board, Executive Board Committee, the Mother/Daughter Banquet Committee and with the Heavenly Seniors. Outside the church walls she interacted with the Parkview Nursing Home Ministry and the Community Mass Choir.
Gloria was a 1960 graduate of Metropolis High School in Metropolis, Il, and later attended Shawnee College. She was employed for over 30 years as the Payroll Supervisor with Electric Energy, Inc. of Joppa, Illinois. She received the honor of "Duchess of Paducah" from Paducah's mayor for her meritorious contributions to the betterment and community interests of Paducah.
In her leisure time, Gloria loved to listen to and play all types of music, and she had a passion for working crossword puzzles. She was deeply loved by her family, especially her grandchildren, and her many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardin Yarbro and Alma Fitzpatrick Frazier, a son, Michael D. Owens and a brother-in-law, John Sibley.
She leaves behind to cherish her sweet memory, one daughter, Tracey (Bonnie) Williams of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren, Derek Owens of Bongor, ME, Jason A. "J-Bird" Owens of Paducah, KY, Gigi Tucker of Charleston, MO, Gregory (Anna) Tucker II of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy Tucker of Paducah, KY and Marquelle Williams of Charleston, MO; four great-grandchildren, Katrice Brown, Armoni Tucker, Jordan Tucker and True Tucker; one sister, Vicki Sibley and one brother, Steven Maxwell, both of Galesburg, IL; other relatives that include a cousin, Dennis (Elizabeth) Wright of Pontiac, MI, a nephew, Kevin Ferguson, special son, Henry Peoples of Montgomery, AL; and many special friends that include June Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Patricia Blackwell, Norma Blackwell, Maxine Russell, Vivian Ridgeway, Jo Martha Clark, Beverly Crockett, Minister Barbara Burrage, Colleen Jennings, Tracey Jones, Sharon Spann, Frances Topp, Irene Agnew, Antwoine Agnew and George (Ayrie) Crump.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries with a "Celebration of Life" Musical Concert to follow at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2022, 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Thaddyeus W. Thompson Sr., officiating. Entombment will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
All in attendance are required to wear a mask.
