George Vincent Milliken, 60, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021. George was a dedicated public-school math teacher for over 25 years in both the Kentucky and New York Public School Systems.
Born April 18, 1960 to the late Rev. Lawrence B. and Rosetta D. Milliken, George graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School and subsequently earned his bachelor's in Mathematics from Kentucky State University and later earned his master's degree in Mathematics Education with Distinction from Hofstra University. He served in both the Army National Guard and the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged from both. On March 23, 1996, he married the love of his life, whom he affectionately called, "Max". He and Dr. Hines later formed an educational consulting practice, dedicated to teaching and inspiring young minds.
An avid singer, while at Kentucky State University, he joined both their Gospel Ensemble and Concert Choir as bass, and sang with them until his graduation, and continued to sing when he joined the Twin City Choristers in Winston-Salem.
A devoted husband, father, and brother, he is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Dr. S. Maxwell Hines, daughter Zakiyaa Taylor of Danville, VA, twin sons, Robert and Lawrence Milliken of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Millette and Jonessa Milliken of Nashville, TN; nephews, Kristoffer Crockett and Kennedy McCartherenes of Nashville, TN, aunts Nancy Kelly of Jurupa Valley, CA and Bessie Thurman of Racine, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lawrence B. and Rosetta D. Milliken and his brother, Rev. Mark B. Milliken.
Viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Monday, April 12, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home, 822 Carl Russell Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Private services will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 12:00pm. Burial will be held in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
