George E. Askew, Sr. 69, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, 9:54 am at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.

George was a member of Burks Chapel A. M. E. Church where he served on the culinary committee and sung in the choir. He retired as a supervisor from EJ & E Railroad in Gary, Indiana and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aicelean Askew, his parents, Horace Askew, Sr. and Lexie Parchman Askew; four brothers, three sisters, three aunts, two uncles, and one nephew.

George is survived by three sons, George Askew, Jr., Chicago, IL, Christopher Askew, Portage, IN, and Michael Bowden, Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Marquita Askew Middleton, Paducah, KY; Two grandchildren; five sisters, Ann McPherson, Celia Askew Davenport, Germaine Askew Taylor, Tamara Askew, all of Paducah, KY, and Sarah Askew, Salinas, CA; three brothers, Joseph Askew, Donald Askew, both of Paducah, and Joe D. Askew, Gary, IN; one aunt, Frances Vaughn, Paducah, KY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2012 at Burks Chapel A. M. E. Church with Reverends Charlene Boone and Vivian Snardon officiating. Burial will follow with Military Rites in Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, KY.

The family will receive visitors Monday, December 31, 2012 from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour at the church.
