Eugene Charlie George, 65, of LaVergne, Tennessee, formerly of Paducah, died at 1:55 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was employed for 25 years with the New York City Transit Authority as a train dispatcher supervisor until his retirement. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and obtained degrees in accounting at Queens College in New York. George was a United States Army Vietnam veteran and was a member of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene George and Susan Rozelle Woods George, a daughter, Tanya George and four brothers.
George is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda George of LaVergne, TN; two sons, Charles George of Paducah , KY and Robert George of LaVergne, TN; a daughter, Rachel George of LaVergne, TN; five sisters, Mattie C. Woods, Elnora Stevenson and Connie Moss, all of Paducah, KY; Lena Stafford of Louisville, KY, and Rose M. Nance of Queens, NY; a brother, Harrison George of Paducah, KY; two grandsons, one aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2011, 12 O'clock noon at the Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev Bennie Heady officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home on Friday, March 25, 2011, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 11:00 a.m.
