Funeral Service for Emma L. Whiteside, 82, Paducah, will be held Friday at 1:00 P.M., Decem-ber 14, 2007, at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Raynarldo Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs..Whiteside left this earthly life for eternal rest from Western Baptist Hospital on
Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 6:42 P.M.
Mrs. Whiteside was the first African American hired as full-time secretary for the City of Paducah. After 32 years of service as office manager with Paducah Public Works, she retired. Mrs. Whiteside was a member of Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served as assistant church clerk, chairperson of both the Scholarship Committee and the Church Membership Committee.
She was a member of the former 7th Street(Macedonia) Baptist Church, serving as church secretary. She was past president of the Friends of Delta, former board member of Crime Stoppers, the United Way, and the Paducah-McCracken County Democratic Committee, and a member of the Links Chapter of Paducah, and was a volunteer for the American Quilters Society. She was a graduate of Central High School in Paris, Tennessee, and West Kentucky Vocational School in Business Administration and received an associate degree in business management from Paducah Community College.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Rudolph Whiteside, her parents Marshall Lee Gray, Sr. & Emma Beatrice Stubblefield Gray, her daughter Rhonda Denise McCoy, two (2) brothers James Carroll Gray and Marshall Lee Gray, Jr., and her sister Charlene Cawthorn.
Visitation will be at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, December 14, 2007, from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
