Dorothy R. Burrage Taylor, 79, Paducah died Saturday, November 15, 2011, 9:27 A. M. at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.
Ms. Taylor was a member of First Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Musician for the Male Chorus, Chairperson of the Resolution Committee, Mother's Board, and Mistress of Ceremony. She was a graduate of Joliet Center School of Nursing in Joliet, Illinois. Ms. Taylor was a Registered Nurse and retired from the State of Illinois and Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. She served on the Housing Authority of Paducah Resident Advisory Council.
Ms. Taylor was a 55 year breast cancer survivor and a well known advocate to cancer prevention and screenings in the community as well as across the state. She was involved in many organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Kentucky Cancer Program and Susan G. Komen for the cure.
Ms. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Taylor, Jr., three daughters, Mary Kathleen O'Neil McNair, Sandra O'Neal Perry, Phyllis Taylor Bates; her parents, Reverend Charlie Ross Burrage and Mary Harvey Burrage; one sister, three brothers, and three grandsons.
Ms. Taylor is survived by one daughter, Barbara Sims Hare, Arlington Heights, IL; two sons, John Henry Knox III, Louisville, KY and Jack Taylor, III, Paducah, KY; three sisters, Christine Pace, Chicago, IL, Betty J. Jones, Smyrna, TN, and Margarette DeFrances Burrage, Paducah, KY; one brother, Samuel E. Burrage, Paducah, KY; 19 Grandchildren, 14 great Grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at First Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 926 South 12th Street, Paducah, KY 42003 with Reverend Charles W. Russell Officiating, Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. at First Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and on Wednesday at the the church after 9:00 A.M.
