Obituary
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
God in his infinite and divine wisdom saw fit to call his loving child, Dessie L. Jones Askew, from her earthly sojourn to eternal rest on Saturday, July 17, 2010, 1:45 p.m., at Lourdes Hospital. Dessie was born the lovely daughter to Georgia Mae Kelly and Roy Lee Potter on July 31, 1963, in Lansing Michigan. At the time of her heavenly transition, she was 46 years, 11 months, and 16 days of age. Dessie had been preceded in death by her maternal grandparents George and Vennie Kelly.
Dessie was a former member of Nehemiah Christian Ministries and was presently pianist and music director for the Church of the Living God CWFF. She had been musically blessed by God to play piano and enthusiastically shared her talent at many churches throughout the Paducah area and beyond. Dessie was a graduate of the Lansing High School in Lansing, Michigan and was employed as a teacher's aide with the Paducah Independent School System.
Only the work of God can blend two people into one. Only He can join them into perfect union, and guide, so that His will shall be done. On August 23, 1989, Dessie and the love of her life, Jerome Howard Askew, united in holy matrimony and become husband and wife in the sight of the Lord.
Dessie thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was extremely dedicated to her music and was always willing to help anyone in any way she could. As a true believer in Christ, Dessie was respectful of pastoral positions and loved people for who they were.
