Colleen Mae Carruthers Hardy departed from this natural life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, 7:24 a.m. At the time of her passing, Colleen had reached the wondrous age of 92 years, 7 months and 1 day. She was the daughter of the late Hue Carruthers and the late Erma Senter Smith Carruthers.
Colleen was a Christian who dearly loved the Lord and loved talking about God's grace. She was the oldest member and a faithful member of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She was formerly employed at both Eli Lily in Indiana and worked as a presser at Dalton Cleaners in Paducah.
Colleen was a woman who enjoyed life. She loved to cook, dancing and good music, wearing her many hats, traveling, gardening, riding motorcycles and working in her yard. For relaxation she liked to fish, but her main hobby was crocheting. One thing that will never be forgotten is that she absolutely loved being with all her family.
She was preceded in death by; two sons, William Reid, Sr. and Terry Howell, one daughter, Geraldine Grubbs, one sister, Hilma Carruthers, two grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter and her parents, Hue Carruthers and Erma Senter Smith Carruthers and stepfather, Wilbur Smith.
Left behind to cherish precious memories are two daughters , Wilma Grubbs of Paducah, KY, and Erma Spears of Dallas, TX; three sons, Wilbur (Deirdra) Reid, Sr. of Brookport, IL, Anthony (Kimberly) Grubbs of West Paducah, KY, and Guan (Lisa) Grubbs of Jackson, TN; 32 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren ; and one great-great-great grandchild; a brother, Clyde (Wanda) Carruthers of Brookport, IL; a host of other family members and friends; and special friend, Francis Neal.
Services have been scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024, 12 noon at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Eric McKinney officiating.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
The service will be livestreamed beginning at 11:50 a.m. on the Pettus Rowland Funeral Home, LLC Facebook page at pettusrowlandfh.com.
