Anna B. Powell, 80 years, 3 months and 17 days of age left this earthly life for eternal rest at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at her residence in Paducah. Ms. Powell was born to the late Augustus Glenn and Fannie McNeil Glenn in Paducah, KY on April 11, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Thad Powell, one son, Lonell Powell, one grandson Ronnie Grinstead; three sisters, Lillian Glenn, Etta Mae Dixon, and Clara Clemons; and a special cousin Joe Edwards Matthews.
Ms. Powell accepted Christ at a young age and was united by baptism with the Rocky Ford Missionary Baptist Church. She later became a member of Burks Chapel AME Church were she had served as President of the Addie Lucas Missionary Society and the adult choir and she also served on the steward board. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Ms. Powell worked for Watkins Ladies Apparel Store and the Paducah Parks & Recreation.
Ms. Powell enjoyed traveling, cooking, singing and making people happy. She loved working in the yard caring for her flowers. She was a member of the Brunch Club.
Dt. Powell was a member of the Masonic Organization since 1970. She has served as Past Worthy Matron of Queen Esther Chapter #4, Order of the Eastern Stars, Past Illustrious Commandress of Balkis Court #156, Daughter of Isis, Past Loyal Lady Ruler of Paducah Assembly #92. Dt. Powell was appointed Imperial Deputy of the Desert of Kentucky on October 19, 1987, serving seven dedicated years to that appointment. The Courts she served was Balkis Court, #156, Paducah; Ismid Court #64, Lexington, KY; Damascus Court #27, Louisville, KY; Rajah Court #58, Hopkinsville, KY; and Aleikum Court #56, Convington, KY. On October 12, 1994 Dt. Powell was appointed the first Deputy of the Oasis for Paducah. She was appointed Deputy Imperial Coordinator of Flag Ceremony of the Imperial Court Daughters of Isis. During a banquet honoring her as Past Imperial Deputy of the Desert, A Proclamation from the Mayor and County Judge's Office was set aside as Anna B. Powell Day, April 15, 1995. Ms. Powell has received the Duchess of Paducah Award, the Kentucky Colonel Award and various other certificates and awards.
